Week 2 gets started Saturday with 6 series across the league. After an exciting week 1, teams will be jockeying for playoff positions already as play heats up in week 2. We are super proud of the overall competitiveness of the OUS, as every team has already entered the win column after one week.
Laurier (2-2) vs Guelph (3-1)
It’s “Fan’s in the Stands Day” in Guelph as the Gryphons host the Golden Hawks for two games Saturday. Minor Softball fans from across the area are encouraged to come out to Exhibition Park in Guelph for these games. In addition to the top quality match-up minor ball fans can meet the players, and participate in a series of fun activities at the ball park. Guelph is making this into a really fun afternoon! Laurier crawled back to the 500 mark Sunday, with two wins over McMaster. Those wins followed a couple of tough games where the offense struggled to get key hits in losses against Western. Guelph played to a 3-1 opening weekend record, and will be looking to put on a nice performance in front of the expected large crowd at Exhibition Park.
Brock (2-4) vs Western (4-0)
Western is one of two undefeated teams in the league after week 1. This weekend Western makes their home season debut as they host the Badgers, a team they defeated two times last weekend in St Catherine’s. Western is hosting these games at Poplar Hill Park which is typically where the Lucan Ilderton minor softball program is based. So the local folks in Lucan will get a chance to see top notch OUS ball Saturday, the Mustangs will look to extend their win streak to 6 by series end. It is an important series for Brock, who can’t afford to get too far behind in the loss column against a stacked western division.
McMaster (1-3) vs Windsor (2-4)
The Lancers are hosting this weekend following a road-trip last weekend that saw them win 2 of 6 games. These next four home dates are important for Windsor if they hope to get back into the conversation for the top spots in the western division. The games go at 2pm at Mic Mac Park. The Mauraders will play their first away series Saturday following home dates in week 1. McMaster showed well in week 1, and will be looking for more of the same in week 2 starting down in Windsor Saturday.
York (2-2) vs Toronto (4-0)
Battle of Toronto Saturday, as the Varsity Blues welcome the Lions. York righted themselves with a sweep in Waterloo Sunday, to get back to 500 at 2-2. Meanwhile the Blues took care of business vs TMU and Ottawa and are sitting on top of the East at 4-0. This two game series is all these teams have on the schedule for week 2, so expect both teams to bring their A game to Herndon Park.
Waterloo (1-3) vs Ottawa (1-3)
Both teams came up on the short side of things Sunday, following their 2 game head to head matches last Saturday that saw both games settled in extra innings. The Gee Gee’s won game 1, and Waterloo salvaged the second game, both games were tight from start to finish and the same is expected Saturday at Carp Fairgrounds in Ottawa. Following this series Ottawa will continue their home stand vs TMU, while Waterloo heads down the highway to play Queen’s Sunday.
TMU (1-3) vs Queen’s (3-1)
These teams will close out their season series Saturday as they meet again this time hosted by Queen’s. The teams split games Sunday, which earned the Bold their first win of the season. Queen’s used solid pitching and some heavy bats to jump out to a 3-1 record following their four game road trip last weekend. They will look to try and keep pace with Toronto a top the Eastern division, and set the Bold back Saturday. TMU following this series heads up to Ottawa, while the Gael’s will host Waterloo Sunday.
