Week 2 Recap

Another exciting weekend of OUS play wrapped up Sunday afternoon bringing a conclusion to the second week of the season. Many teams have already crossed/reached the half-way mark in the season in terms of games played, so next week will be a very important one as teams jockey for post-season positions.

The Western Ontario Mustangs are the current leaders in the OUS Western Conference following a perfect 6-0 road trip in week #2 that saw them sweep series vs Guelph, Laurier and Waterloo. Western’s attack is relentless at the plate, and that combined with solid pitching and defense makes them a very tough opponent for anyone they will come across. The Windsor Lancers had a successful 5-1 road trip through the same teams as Western, Windsor had three walk-off victories (one in each of their series). The top two teams in the West meet this coming weekend in London.

In the Eastern Conference, based on winning % the Toronto Varsity Blues are now the division leader following a perfect 4-0 weekend, with sweeps of Ottawa and CU Fastpitch. Ottawa wrapped up 12 straight games at home to start season play in second position. Meanwhile defending OUS champion Queen’s now sits at 3-3 and with a heavy second half of the season will look to continue to rise positions in the Eastern Conference. Congrats to CU Fastpitch and York earning their first wins this past weekend. Each will be aiming for more wins this coming week, to try and stay close to the final playoff spot.
