University of Western Ontario Season Preview

The Western Mustangs have had arguably one of the most successful programs in North America over the last 10+ years, with numerous OUS/OIWFA Championships, countless appearances at Canadian Nationals, and much more. Things are once again shaping up well for the Mustangs heading into 2023.

Training Camp for the Mustangs is August 28 to September 2nd, and the team also has a few pre-season games set-up (September 4th vs Conestoga 11AM, Humber 3PM) at the Byron Complex located at 651 Boler Road in London ON. Then on the 6th Western will play cross-town rival Fanshawe on the campus at Fanshawe College, its a double header with games at 4 & 6PM.

Head coach Pete Lemon, is excited about his playing roster, which will be a healthy balance between veterans and some incoming first year students. Some names heading to Western include:

  • Hailee Jenkins (Oakland University, Kinesiology);
  • Neely Johnston (PEI, Criminology);
  • Kayla Martins (Vaughan Vikings, Medical Sciences);
  • Hailey Dykstra (Vaughan Vikings; Psychology);
  • Brooklyn Webb (Vaughan Vikings; Kinesiology);
  • Sydney Arn (Saskatchewan 222’s, Management & Organizational Studies);
  • Ava Basque (Toronto Fastpitch, Social Science).  

Lemon, is helped by strong assistant coaches Becky Goudy and Kara Stirling. The Mustangs will once again play their home games at Stronach Park in London. (1221 Sandford Street). Western tries to add some excitement to their home dates with special events and promotions. September 23rd will be Youth Softball Day, where there are a number of fun contests in between innings for young athletes. Recruit Day is September 24th, where potential students can find out more about playing for Western, October 1st will be the Annual Senior’s Day, where graduating student athletes get special recognition.
