Toronto Varsity Blues Season Preview

The Varsity Blues Women’s Softball team is poised for another successful campaign this fall. Head Coach, Craig Sarson said in an interview this week, “We have a number of talented returning players, and our coaching staff is excited about several new student athletes who will be part of the team this fall too”. New incoming players are expected to include:

  • Olivia Mather (P, OF). White Rock Renegades, Vancouver, BC. Life Sciences
  • Zoe Goldberg (P, IF). Frozen Ropes, Boston, MA, USA. Life Sciences
  • Meijin Patil (OF). Arlington Impact, Arlington, VA, USA. Psychology
  • Madison Mattar (C). Whitby Eagles, Whitby, ON. Chemical Engineering

In addition the club believes there will be a few more players following the teams training camp, which is scheduled for August 28 – September 1st at Detonia Park. The Blues have a pre-season tune-up set up for Sunday September 3rd when they will play OCAA Sheridan College at 12pm at Topham Park. Mercedes Roddau joins the coaching staff this fall, and is a former Toronto player graduating in 2018. She will help provide the new players with some insight on what it means to play in the OUS Eastern Conference. This season the Blues will be playing out of Dentonia Park, as well as Main Street Athletic Field, and Thompson Park, as diamond space in the area has been hard to secure.
