OUS Championship Recap

The 2022 Ontario University Softball season has come to an end, and there was no shortage of excitement as per usual. The OUS has crowned a new champion for the first time since 2009, with the Queen’s Gaels toppling the perennial favourite, Western Mustangs for their first title in program history. The Brock Badgers wind up with back to back bronze medals, after knocking off the University of Toronto who finished fourth.

In the gold medal game, Queen’s was able to comeback from down 2-0, scoring one run in the fifth and the sixth innings to tie the game before walking off the Mustangs with an RBI single from Ausha Guzzwell, driving in Taryn Millar to win the title. Abby Jacklin was strong in the circle for the Gaels, going the distance, giving up just two hits, striking out six. Winning the MVP award for the weekend was Sarah Van Den Heuvel from Queen’s University, with a .706 batting average, slugging .882 for the championships.
