2021 OIWFA Season Wrap Up

October 26, 2021 – The 2021 OIWFA season wrapped up on Sunday October 24 with the medal round of the OIWFA Championship tournament at the Brampton Fairgrounds. The Western Mustangs and Brock Badgers qualified out of the West Division, along with the Toronto Varsity Blues and Ottawa Gee-Gees having qualified from the East.

Semi-final action saw Ottawa defeat Brock and Western defeat Toronto, setting up a rematch of the 2019 OIWFA Championship gold medal game. Toronto and Brock faced off in the bronze medal game, with Brock coming out on top in a tight 2-0 match to bring home the bronze medal.

In the gold medal game, Western got off to a strong start and never looked back, taking down Ottawa 12-2 to secure their 11th consecutive and 13th overall OIWFA title. With the loss, Ottawa claims back-to-back OIWFA silver medals. Their trip to the finals means Western and Ottawa have again qualified to represent the OIWFA at the 2022 Canadian Collegiate Softball Association (CCSA) National Championships.

All games on Championship Sunday were live-streamed through the OIWFA Facebook page, allowing friends, family and fans around the world to have a front row seat to the action if they weren’t able to be at the park. All games will continue to be available for viewing on the OIWFA Facebook page.

Scores from the entire Championship weekend can be found on the OIWFA Championships page.

The OIWFA congratulates the 2021 medalists, and all teams for the completion of a great fall season and Championship tournament. Running a season during COVID-19 was not without challenges, but the OIWFA commends all teams and coaches for their hard work to ensure team member health and safety and to allow us to return to the diamond this fall for the OIWFA’s 20th anniversary season.

To the friends, families, fans and supporters of the OIWFA – thank you! Your support means everything as we strive to grow and promote the OIWFA and gain the respect and recognition OIWFA student-athletes deserve.

Finally, the OIWFA wishes to extend an immense thank you to the Provincial Women’s Softball Association, the Brampton Blazers Softball Club, Ballpark Broadcasting and our umpire crew for their support through the 2021 OIWFA season and Championship tournament.

We’ll see you back on the diamond in 2022!
