Just like that, the OUS regular season is gone… today is the final day of play. We have been blessed with absolutely awesome weather the last 5 weeks, and today is no different. What a great day to catch some great softball action at these sites. Game times are 11AM and 1PM.
Queen’s (12-6) vs Toronto (17-1)
The top 2 teams in the East meet on the final day of play to day at Hendon Park. Toronto earned two wins Saturday over York, and Queen’s won both in Waterloo. Toronto will play these two games today and then get ready for a trip to Calgary next weekend. Meanwhile Queen’s closes the regular season today and then will wait 2 weeks to have their shot at the league championship in Innerkip. The Varsity Blues won the two earlier matches in this series.
Ottawa (9-9) vs York (9-9)
Both teams have secured post-season tickets, today they will play for 3rd place. Ottawa secured their post season berth Saturday with a sweep of the TMU Bold. York lost two games to Toronto, but they were in both and had chances. The series goes today in Brampton at the Fairgrounds.
TMU (3-15) vs Waterloo (4-14)
Bold and Warriors are set to tangle in Waterloo today. These teams met in week 3, and Waterloo won both games in Toronto. These teams are playing their final regular season games today as both teams will not be playing in the post-season. TMU celebrated many seniors yesterday in their final home series, today Waterloo will do the same to send off their senior players at Hillside.
Windsor (10-8) vs Laurier (12-6)
The battle for 2nd place happens today in Waterloo. Laurier, needs just one win to secure the spot, Windsor will need to sweep, and also win the combined games by more than 2. Laurier will following these games today get ready for a trip West to Calgary next weekend as part of the Canadian Championship. Windsor split in London yesterday to remain in the hunt to place 2nd, and avoid the Queen’s Gaels in round 1. Laurier played two close games at home to Brock, winning both.
Brock (4-14) vs Guelph (6-12)
Guelph stayed alive, but they have work to do to get the final play-off spot. Their mission is simple win both home games against Brock, which would then force McMaster to take a game from Western. If the Badgers can spoil the day and win a game against the Gryphons, then McMaster will move on and take the final playoff spot, holding the head to head tie-breaker. Brock is a team that has battled every weekend, and looking at the record it’s not a fair assessment of the talent on this team. Games go at 11AM at the campus field in Guelph.
Western (15-3) vs McMaster (7-11)
Exciting series in Hamilton as the hosts can qualify for the playoffs with one win today at the campus diamond. McMaster leads Guelph by one game in the standings with two left, but hold the tie-breaker. Western comes in locked into the #1 seed in the West, and will play either Ottawa/York in the opening round of games in two weeks in Innerkip. First game goes today at 11AM.
